Congrats to Ted Eaton on the publication another informative YBM technical article!

While the benefits of plug indexing may indeed be debatable, clearing up the mystery at least allows the detail-oriented compulsives among us to feel more secure, in that all the bases are likely covered.

Don't they make thin spacers to fit under the plugs to assist in indexing? Chuck in NH

I thought it was something more elaborate than just trying plugs until one that is oriented correctly when tightened is found.  In any case, I'm glad I now know.

Have seen the indexing spacers that you mention for the 14mm spark plugs but haven’t seen them for the 18mm plugs in quite awhile.  But I’ve always stayed clear of the indexing spacers anyhow as they add a given amount of complexity to the indexing procedure as well as adding some variance (as minor as it may be) to the compression ratios.

Ted and Moonshadow:

Not to mention that a spacer could also act as a heat insulator, making the plug run slightly hotter, which opens another bag of potential problems.
