I was curious as to whether this is a good buy, or whether I can buy parts individually cheaper or is this just overkill. Any opinions? I had to fab a small angle piece to hold the emergency brake

cable and re-shape the hyd. brake line a fuzz.

I used a wheel with 3 1/2 in backspace, although you could proabably

           use 4 1/2 B.S and a small wheel spacer 7/32 or so

For your info, these rear ends are plentiful in u-pull's and are

very strong. Most will have 3.73,4.10,3.08 and many have trac-lok

from the factory. If you go looking, on the tag if there is an "L"

after the first digit, its got a trac-lok. (ex. 3L73) Hope this

helps someone out there in "Y" Land...... I am also thinking of putting disk brakes on the front, so I want to get a booster for the brakes at some point. I have found a few different universal clutch/brake pedal assemblies that bolt onto the firewall, and Im thinking this would be a good route to take. Does anyone have experience with this type of kit? Am I asking for trouble by installing on of these? I really don't want to track down all the parts for a stock clutch, does anyone know of a clutch pedal/master cylinder assembly from another model car that will fit on a 56?
Any input you guys have on this subject will be helpful!
Thanks,
Cedric

Drive train

If I was to update my tired '54 4-door what would be good donor car to use to get engine, trans and anything else usefull that would be pretty easy swap? Do any of you Y Guys recommend any particular year due to reliability ,ease of installation etc.I have ordered my adapter from Mummert and am waiting delivery. So, I guess I need to go looking for one. There is a transmission shop about an hour away that rebuilds C4s for street/strip applications. I can get one there fairly inexpensive but I am interested in cruising not the 1/4 mile. Those thinking of a points change may want to go with the Petronix module kit in your stock distributor or supposedly they brought out a distributor for the Y-block,if so you might want to check the overall size and length to your stock one! I can't get them on the bar, nor do they seem to fit will in the brackerts which leads me to believe I bought the wrong ones. Measurement of the stabilizer bar seems to be 3/4". Any help is appreciated, or perhaps if there is an aftermarket part, or bushings from another application that will work. My trans shipped back to me today so i want to get this thing back together this weekend. I cut and stretched the mid ports , welded the bolt holes, redrilled, they coming out nice. They clear everything, this can be done to almost any SBC header. It's more work, but worth it. I started using these upon having a rash of exhaust manifolds crack or break upon after using the fibre gaskets that were being supplied with the rebuild kits. These gaskets greatly reduced the occurence of exhaust manifolds cracking on my end. This particular pair of gaskets are FelPro P/N MS-95003 but can likely be found in other brands also The top gasket shows the side that goes toward the head while the lower gasket shows the side that is placed against the exhaust manifold itself.

FMX dipstick

I need to buy an FMX dipstick. The other three doors have good panels and I hope to reuse the base. I tried the door handle removal tool, tried the shop towel and ladies nylons (told by forum members to drag these idems thru to snag the "C" ring and pull it off), tried bent ice pick, bent pocket knife blade, big screwdrivers, little screwdrivers, bent tweasers, pieces of wire, tried swearing at them, tried begging....now thinking, how bad can it be to have one new door panel and three that are worn and soiled. The handles are held tight to panel with spring between door and panel and yes I did separate the big washer from the back side of handle to get at the grove and yes I am going in the right direction to push the ring off. I have done this before many times on different cars and never had a problem but I've spent hours trying to get these things off and I'm getting nowhere:w00t:....the handles are:D at me....HELP !!!
