I liked it there. While the ride was expected to be better, I was concerned it was going to lower the car too much. Didn’t happen. Don’t know the difference between a ‘bird and full size car, but I’d be surprised if it pushed it down 2 1/2 inches more.

Photo of High Torque Mini and orginal starter

The Auto Electric mini starter came last week. I bought a 1963 Ford cab over and i will be restoring/customizing it with the intent to use it for my business (carpet cleaning). I love the truck and plan to leave the look of it all original and I suppose if I had the time and money i would stick with the 292 that is in it but i don't and it is already missing vital parts and I suspect it is seized since it has been open to the weather. My plan then is to replace it with a fuel injected 351W out of an 1989 Ford van, I will transfer most of the wiring harness and components from the van to my truck. I do wish to retain the 4-speed manual transmission that is currently hooked to the 292 Y block but if I'm to understand correctly the bell housing will not bolt up to the 351W. So I'm wondering if anyone here has advice, i need to know if there is an adapter plate available or if a bell housing off a newer transmission that fits the 351W will bolt onto my 4-speed. my only other option i can think of is to abandon the 4-speed and get a newer 4-speed that bolts up to the 351W but I'm worried because the Cab over has a special shifter plate that bolt to the tranny and I'm not sure it will work with another tranny , also this tranny is geared for my truck and fits the mounts and drive shaft so i think it would be best to keep it if i can....... Advice please!

P.S. I do plan to find a good home for the 292, it will not end up in a wreaking yard! Also i do know of a newer cab over with a newer engine but what appears to be the same tranny. Would anyone know what engine it might have? I Believe it is a 1968ish C750. I wonder if this newer truck would have the bell housing i need on it....

1959 f350 rear

i have a 1959 f350 with a dually rear. do they make different gears for it and the drums? i cant seem to find anything about it

Lincoln Versailles front spindles..57 Tbird

Will Lincoln Versailles front spindles fit the 57 Tbird without reaming? I bought it last summer. It runs fairly well. However, it just has not measured up to my other 50's cars. I checked the distributor and discovered that the vacuum advance was shot and wouldn't hold a vacuum. After further looking, I discovered that the vacuum advance is like what goes on a 1955 T-bird as it does not match the one used on either a 57' or a 56'. It is also a tach drive distributor. I decided I want to go to a Mallory tach drive distributor. I looked at Mallory's catalog and called the tech line as well as looked at the aftermarket T-bird parts suppliers. The aftermarket people sell a dual points set up for $600-800. It is probably a Mallory number 2638701. Mallory says its discontinued. Mallory has an electronic ignition called Unilite (Mallory number 3838701) that the catalog shows will work. However, on the electronic set up, it says it fits 1955-1962 Ford 256, 272, 292 and 312 Hex Drive Oil Pump (whereas on the dual points set up the catalog shows 1955-62 Ford 256, 272, 292 and 312 but does not mention hex drive oil pump). So my concern is that the electronic set up may only work on a car with a hex drive oil pump. Mallory's tech line says they don't know if its a mistake in the catalog or if it will only go on a 1957 312 with a hex drive. I have not pulled my distributor to see what I've got.

I also have a tach driven by a cable. I want to keep it. However, the new Mallory appears to have a speedometer style screw on end whereas the old Ford one uses a gear and a bracket. Mallory doesn't know where to go to get a new tach cable made up for my 57 T-bird. They said look on e-bay-I didn't find what I wanted there.

Does anyone have experience putting the Mallory electronic Unilite tachmoeter distributor on a 1957 T-bird? If so, I would appreciate your advice as well as how to get a tachometer cable. I'd prefer to buy a system through a Mallory dealer and find a tach cable and not be stuck paying $600-800 for a Mallory dual point set up at one of the aftermarket T-bird dealers-it seems high. Thank you.

Bolt Pattern 56 Ford

Ok. Total noob question (or in my case a lazy question). What is the factory wheel bolt pattern on a 56 ford (mine is a Customline)? I assume from some other posts that it is 5 on 4.5" circlt.
My car is in storage not near my house, so I can't go measure any time soon with extra effort so it is easier to confirm with all of you. I need tires for my 56 before I can get it on the road...and sometimes while looking on craigslist I find tires mounted on late model wheels and I have fun imagining different style wheels on my car....but without knowing the bolt pattern (or backspacing etc) I can't take any of my day dreams too seriously.

3 speed top loader trans.

Hello folks. I'm new to this site and look forward to talking with all of you. I have a question about my 63 F100's trans.

The truck has the stock 3 spd toploader on the cloumn. I want to convert to a floor shifter on this trans and heard somthing about using a Jeep top loader shifter or one from a different car:unsure: If not, whats the best universal shifter anyone has used?

The trans is in good shape and I dont want to change it out. I still have the 292 motor in the truck. I also need to change out the column which is another reason for the floor shifter.

Thanks in advance!

Chem Dip isnt working on the carbs!

I did a search and nothing came up. Perhaps this has been covered before. I've been trying to use Chem Dip (Berryman's) to clean up some carbs but they are not coming out well. Often there is a blackish deposit that looks bad. Maybe there is another process after ChemDipping they need to go through, or maybe I am leaving the parts immersed too long.
Are ultrasonic cleaners the method of choice these days? I heard some time ago Harbor Freight had an ultrasonic unit. Anyone using it?

Mike

6 lug truck wheels

Hello again.
