The bonnet would work, Fits a Holley or Demon by rotating it off to the side to miss the floats.

Matt, making 400+ hp is very doable in a y-block. Good head work, Intake , Cam selection, carb, and a good balance job on your mill you should be able to drive it anywhere and to the strip. Come to Columbus Oh. this labor day week end and watch these guys run!!! Watching Frank, John, and Vic in their impressive machines is all it takes.

I would love to make it to Colombus and have some fun. Have to see if I can get off from work, I have plenty of time to try though. Hopefully I'll have mine started by then. Planning is always fun. There are just too many choices when it comes to engines. Thanks for all of the input every one.

Conrad,

Gary's being a little modest here, his UNBLOWN bird runs very low 13's at over a 100 mph. It's also street driven. If you're around North Carolina be careful picking on old black Thunderbirds, you may get a surprise!!  He won the Y Block shootout at Columbus last Labor day with it against some fairly serious racers.

I am hoping for eventual 450 at the wheels with a lot of boost and some serious headwork.  Hopefully not too many busted parts...

Sounds like a lot of fun James. twin turbo yeah. Hope to see alot of coverage on this engine build. I think I just found the bones for my engine today. Local guy has a C2AE for $400, might be able to barter it off of him. Would rather spend my cash on speed items. Are the C1TE heads worth building for a boosted engine or should I try and find the 5750 heads?

Matt:

C1TE heads have the same chamber volume as 471s but have smaller intake valves.  I have put the 1.94 valves in them and used them on my blown car, saw no performance difference between them and the stock blower heads.  I opened the bowl area to match the bigger valves.  I had to use spark plugs without extended tips, as the intake valves would hit the ground electrode of an extended tip plug.

The guy who has the C2AE also has an EDB block that was sent to the machine shop left std bore, new cam bearings installed, polished, cleaned up, etc...Anyways, I was wondering if I should pick it up off of him and use it with C2AE parts, due to it probably being made of thicker cast? For $50 seems a shame not to. any opinions?  (He said that the EDB crank couldn't be re-used though...egg shaped or something? would there be concern as to the block's main crank journal area? the surfaces looked fresh.) He also has ECZ 4bbl manifold, what would you offer for it?
