| POSI WAS NOT OFFERED ON 55 AND 56 FORDS AND T-BIRDS. I WANTED ONE. WE DETERMINED THAT THE REAR END IN THESE CARS WAS A 'DANA 44' HYBRED. (MOPAR LIKE CENTER SECTION WITH FORD 9 -INCH TYPE TUBES AND WHEEL BEARINGS. SO, IF A MOPAR CARRIER WITH POSI WAS CHOSEN- IT WOULD FIT THE CENTER SECTION. BUT>>> THE CARRIER BEARINGS FROM A MOPAR WILL NOT FIT IN THE FORD CENTER-THEY WOULD BE 'TOO BIG'. PEOPLE TOLD ME TO CALL REIDER RACING AND THEY KNOW ALL ABOUT THIS SWAP. THEY HAVE IN STOCK THE CARRIER, SPECIAL SMALLER O.D. BEARINGS AND POSI FOR SALE>>ALL AT ONE PLACE. ABOUT $450.00 WILL GET YOU WHAT YOU NEED/ YOU DON'T HAVE TO REPLACE THE RING AND PINION IF THEY ARE STILL GOOD AND YOU LIKE THE RATIO YOU NOW HAVE. JUST GET A SHIM KIT FOR A DANA 44 AND 'TIGHTEN IT UP' WITH THE PROPER SHIMS. (I DID). WORKS PERFECT!!! THE POSI UNIT IS NOT AN EATON TYPE- IT HAS
SPECIAL 'GEARS' AND RAMPS IN IT ---REIDER WILL TELL YOU HOW IT WORKS. I HAVE 4,000 MILES ON THIS UNIT AND HAVE NO COMPLAINTS AT ALL. (I HAVE 55 T-BIRD WITH Y-BLOCK 292/BLUE THUNDER/HOLLEY/3 SPEED CRUISE-O-MATIC) OH, IF ANYONE WANTS THE DATA ON THE 3 SP CRUISE-O IN A EARLY Y-BLOCK-I HAVE THAT KNOWLEDGE,TOO. CALL ED AT 419-377-9449 OR HOME> 419-476-4437 > IN TOLEDO OHIO. BYE . |

| Morgus: When you refer to the rear ends in 55-56 Fords and T-birds, are you talking about the regular car rears, or about Station Wagon, Sedan Delivery (Courier) rear ends?.. (from Vancouver .B.C.)

| | Paul: Morgus mentioned in his early post that he was dealing with a Dana 44. That is the T-Bird, wagon, Ranchero, SD, pickup rear with the removable rear cover. Chuck, I'm curious as to why you are looking for a mini-spool if your locker is working well. I'm sure you know a spool isn't very streetable. If there is a mini spool made for S10 scrub pickups and having 28 splines, it might be adaptable to your carrier. Pure speculation on my part though. I know yours isn't a Dana. John in Selma, IN John

| | John, The locker is in a 3:80 ratio chuck. I have a new set of 4:11s I was wanting to set up in a spare chuck with the spool. It's such a simple matter to swap gears so I thought I'd have a street and strip setup. Of course, If I ever get around to hanging the AOD tranz then the 4:11s might be fine for full time cruizing. Anyway, thats what I had in mind. Chuck

| | Hello; Thanks for the info on the posi for the 55 Tbird. Does your rear end have axles with 19 splines? I recently picked up a rear end from a 1959 Ford pickup and it had a Dana 44- with 19 spline axles and a 3.73 trac-loc. I believe that Ford, GM and Jeep used the Dana 44 -19 spline until 1970 or there abouts and they are around. Parts are still available. |
