Tomorrow I'm going and picking up a Y Block 312 for 100 bucks because my 57 Fairlane only has a 292. then driving it to a engine rebuild shop that builds primarily race engines, but also some street rod engines and having it completely gone threw its getting bored homed ported polished with a medium lope cam so im stoked and cant wait for it to be done. In the mean time im going to get rid of all the holes in the fire wall and get rid of the heater blower motor along with getting rid of the external regulator to make the engine bay area clean and smooth focusing your eyes on the clean engine. But by no means a trailer queen clean car

Not my dads 57 Fairlane nor my grandfathers, young guns are taking over !

Rebellious:

Go to John Mummert's site (link from this site) and find and read the article on common mistakes made when building the Y engine, and see that your engine shop sees it.  I would seriously doubt anyone working there would have much if any experience building Ys, and there are some things that can be assembled wrong.  Simple things, like bolt lengths, cam timing, oiling issues, etc.  Good luck with your new engine.
