Hey Ted, just wanted to let you know I'm not going to The "Thaw" after all. Have to try again later. Have fun, stay warm.

Bill,

Went to the Thaw, Didn't take the Falcon, has a not in good shape front tie rod end, But was able to convince the Son and my Brother to join me as a spectator... The place was packed... for the weather was cold.. The Y block was represented by several cars, Ted was there and I'll let him speak/write about his outting.. Got Pictures, will send to Ted and Jim to post..

Brother and I own/operate 1957 Ford Fairlane 312/4x2 and two 1963 Falcons 302 rollers carburated 600cfm, FE427 sitting in shed..

Racing – Texas Thaw.

Brrrrrrrr.  It was indeed chilly at the Texas Thaw at North Star Dragway but a great turnout.  And diversity in the vehicles present was incredible as there was something there for everyone.  Still hard to fathom the number of people that showed up for this considering how cool and windy it was.  But what am I saying?  I was there also……call me hardcore like the rest of ‘em.

Four years is obviously the limit for spark plugs in the Roadster as I was experiencing a high speed misfire and had no plugs with me to replace them.  Cool enough also that the fuel mixture was on the lean side but still managed to run a 6.11 et.  Although Harry didn’t bring it up and rub it in, lost the scoop on the first run.  Some spectators on the opposite side of the track brought the broken scoop back to me and was able to cobble it back on the car to continue racing.  Now I have an excuse to work on a new scoop design.  Eventually went out in the second round of brackets with a close one at the finish.

And here’s some pics of just a very few of the vehicles at the event for all to enjoy.  Not large sized for the obvious dialup speed reasons.

Ted:

Interesting picture of the Henry J.  A friend of mine ran a Henry J back in the very early '60s with a 322 inch Y, dual Lincoln teapots, Isky E-2.  My Dad worked at Warner Gear and was able to get him a brand new Ford T-10 at cost.  His front seat was a kitchen chair, chrome tubing with a plywood seat and back.  NHRA legal then, he even ran it at the Nationals.  Ran B/G, was in the low 12s as I remember.

You're right, quite an array of cars.
