| | Ron, Pc said it all in his first sentence. We are not upset, just want these fine cars to retain most of their originality from that time, but it might not be your cup of tea.. Your 54 4dr looks very nice as shes sitting. By the way, I myself didn't elect to go with my original engine. I went with a 272 bored out. I did keep the 256 under my bench, as someone has mentioned here. And Frank where is expo labor day? |

| | Marvin, Columbus Ohio. Half the guys on this site will be there, mostly waiting to see what I can break this year! We had around 30 cars racing at National Trail Raceway last year, and a few more at the car show. Figure on two days minimum Friday through Sunday.

| | I have the original 239, rebuilt with 20K on it, in my 54 club coupe. I have been to Hartford CT twice and Rhinebeck NY once with it and I live in southeastern MA. I had a 312 rebuilt, bored, balance and blue printed, two years ago, with a C4 conversion. The 239 is running so well that I am hard pressed to change over to the 312 so it sits on the engine stand. I am saving it for my 34 Ford coupe. There isn't as pretty an engine as the Y-block. You see them in more and more 50s period hot rods all the time. Just look at Marv's Mercury, did you ever see anything so pretty. Those engines are much maligned by people who are not well informed. I have articles from mid 50s magazines and they ate up the sbc engines. In fact, knock on wood; I have had very few problems with any Y-block. Just like any engine, take care of it and maintian it. If you change it out to a later engine use a Ford. FEs are a bolt in. 289, 302s and the like are more work but a friend of mine put a 289 Cobra in his 57 Coupe years ago and he remembers using 80 Cougar motor mounts with minor modifications and swa I have the original 239, rebuilt with 20K on it, in my 54 club coupe. | | I agree with keeping as original as possible but we can't always do that. But you should still be able to stay period specific. I recently pulled the engine out of my 57 Fairlane and was disapointed to find it was a 292 instead of the original 312 thats suposed to be in the car according to the Data Plate. But I installed a used 292 Industrial out of a 56 Dump Truck to get me buy until I rebuild the 292 that came out. My point is we can't always be numbers matching , but sure is nice to see old cars that are! I was so glad to read that you are going to try and stay original. |
