I was thinking about converting to four wheel drive on my 57 f100.I have a mild 292 and c4 transmission.Does anybody know if I can still use the c4 for a four  wheel drive transfer case?Did any of the later model 4x4s with Ys come with automatics?

Ford used C-4's in Broncos and light trucks with four wheel drive so you could used the transfer case from them. You would also have to install a shorter output shaft and tail housing for the transfer case. I once put a complete Bronco four wheel drive under a '72 Ford E-100 van. Lotsa fun...

I found something you might be interested in looking at.On the Toronto Ont Canada Kijiji site look at ad #172453885.He has a 56 Ford F150 4wd Napco conversion.Supposed to be extremely rare as these were custom built for a special order.

All of the later model Y block powered 4X4's I've seen were manuals.. The first automatic in a production line 4X4 was (if my memory serves me corectly) a 62 or 63 Jeep Wagoneer..

Hey,Im out in southern cal.Ive been able to locate a c4 and 205 transfer case along with a dana 60 with disk brakes.I think they came out of a 70s 4x4?Im goin to rebuild everything and fab up the necessary mounts and such.Ill be useing coil overs and four bar suspension. My 292 has plenty of power for the job.Ill put updates up as I go,thanks for all the input.
