I want to remove all the old brake fluid in my 55 crown. I have a MityVac pump kit and have purchased Valvoline Synthetic Dot 3&4. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks JDH

Assuming that DOT 3 or 4 was in the car to begin with, just make sure the lines are not rusted, flattened or crimped. If you get any rust in the old fluid, be sure to clean completly. Also, if the flex lines are old, replace them. You can't see internal damage on these flex lines

I’ve used alcohol in those instances where I needed to clean the brake line passages in lieu of replacing with new lines. If doing this or any other type of line cleaning, just be sure to air blow the lines suffieciently before closing everything up and replacing the fluid.

Since the lines and bleeder screws all are at the top of the cylinders, the only sure way to get ALL the old fluid out is to take the wheel cylinders apart and clean them after flushing the lines as Ted mentioned above.

Hey, thanks for the help. I never thought about the covered lines being rusted. Next job is replacing them. I like the idea of alcohol flushing plus the disassembly of the wheel cylinders. Should I do anything with the master cylinder other than sucking the fluid out, maybe running alcohol through it or is that too radical. John

Hey I forgot. This car was redone about 1985 so it probably has dot 3. When I pulled the drums everything looks like it came from the factory. Its nice and clean. John
