A friend of mine was asked to tear apart this motor and find the noise.....I couldn't believe the thrust bearing would even fit on the front main!!!!!!  Barry L

Barry:

Were the main cap bolts also that loose, or did you loosen them?  I assume there is no thrust bearing in the #3 saddle.  That would no doubt cause a nose.  A thrust bearing in the front probably wouldn't hurt anything, there's room for it.

that's funny!   I don't know how many times I've seen scrub guys try to put the thrust on the #5 main in a 289/302 just because they are programmed that way but never on the #1.

God Bless.

Main caps were loosened  for the repair. The noise was the flex plate. This engine has run for almost 6,000 miles on this rebuild . The pan was removed for a leaky rear main repair. No damage to the crank or even a mark on the misplaced bearing. They're going to put new mains and rear seal in it....should be good for ever after that!  Barry
