here's a little food for thought for us thrifty types . you can use ford 3.8 pistons V6 pistons 312 stroker combos . I think std. is 3.812 common over bore is 75mm which comes somewhere around 3.840 and comp. ht. is around 1.580 same pin of .912 all this gives you room for some offset grinding + a little added stroke . also the superchargered v6 supercoupe pistons are forged . the only drawback is all these pistons are pressed pin . tennessee tuxedo

If you offset grind the crank, what rods would you use?

I used a set of nascar carrillo rods off ebay , 2.00 sbc journal , I think 6.320 long or 6.380 , they run em 500 to 600 miles , sell em off for what ever, I became real interested in the combos , the stuff is light , + very strong . I have a bunch of different sets . Most of the new stuff uses honda journals.

| Thats funny, my brother dismantled a 3.8 or 3.0 some time ago and I saw one of the pistons lying around, I mentioned that it looked similar in size to the 312 and brought it home but never did get around to comparing it yet. Do you have any motors running with this combo?

| Hey Mongo , What is the weight of these pistons compared to stock pistons ???.I bought a set of hypereutectic pistons which were way too heavy .From memory about 135 grams heavier than stock 292 cast pistons .The supplier was about as helpful as a wooden frypan ? Regards Lon

| Lon, I think the pin heights are wrong on the Buicks. you'd have to find aftermarket pistons and do your own pin bores. Mummerts got pistons and rods, some are lighter, some aren't.

The 3.8 I was talking about is the Ford V6 not Buick.
