Whilst all goings on with me not existing in the forum I had to replace the near worn out distributor on the old beast. The options I had were repair the existing, upgrade the existing to electronic or MSD. For a number of reasons I went with the MSD and so far am extremely happy with the results. I went for the billet 8383 and it went in without a hitch the truck runs smoother and noticebly cooler. Anyone considering the upgradeI believe would not be dissapointed.

Hang loose and enjoy the ride.

Thanks for the report, 56 effie. Good to see somebody making Y-block ( and also fits Lincoln Y-block if you use your LYB gear ) distributors. If you needed a crank or con rods you could have somebody grind them out of a lump of metal. But a dizzy is something complex that needs to be made for the application.

Thanks for this thread.  I have been considering this for my project.  The thought about running cooler really intrigued me.  I think that I will go this way.

56effie, I forgot to ask where you got the distributor.  Where is the best place to buy MSD products?

I'm also running that distributor, and in addition I just added a MSD 6AL to the mix. It's running wonderfully.

My name is Greg and I am addicted to Y's.

Has anyone used a Petronics? An MSD is expensive as hell. Back "in the day" I used a ford dual point. Was the best thing going back then. I would like to have an electronic distributor, alternator and electric windshield wipers. One of these days I'll get all of this caught up on my "56 Customline Victoria" that I just "rescued" from the snow and ice in Colorado after being in storage for 27 years .. Good stuff on this site though.
