| | Peter, Yes the brackets I referred to came with the A/C kit I bought from VintageAir.They can be purchased separately too. When bought with the kit they were $20,but I think bought separately they are $99.They allow installation of a GM alternator and the Sanden A/C compressor on the Y-Block.They fit well and are a breeze to install.I've got around 15,000 miles on one of them and no problem at all.Their website,I think, is vintageair.com. And let me wish you and all others on here the Merriest of Christmas's and may 2008 be the Happiest year ever for everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| | Here are a few pictures of the low mount GM bracket - from Speedway - that I used on my T-bird. The one inch spacer behind the water pump on the bird makes this arrangement different than what would be useful on a sedan or truck installation. The Speedway streetrod style bracket ($40) was originally intended for a SBC with a GM alt. mounted low and left.
It tucks in very low and uses a self exciting/self regulating GM alternator of sixties vintage - mine was $90 in black powder coat.
It is assembled "backwards" for RH use and uses a little "F" shaped bracket I made to fit it on the Y-block front cover. If you are trying to build such a thing for the sedan style system (no waterpump spacer) - the legs of the "F" would have to be omitted and the bracket "re-engineered".
This is one alternative to the $100 bracket - there are probably a lot of others.
