Yeah, I like music.  But when I'm pure stock racing my T-Bird, I tune the radio to the track's frequency.  Sometimes the announcer will mention which car has a better reaction time, gives you a little information about how to drive the end of the race.  Won't work in the Hurricane though, it has no mufflers.  Hey, that's what this thread is about--mufflers!

Something to think about -When you rebuild that Y block , get that compression up , dial in a bigger cam . Your exhaust tone is going to change. I had a stock 292 with cherrybombs in a 55 sdn. all in all sounded ok just too quiet. Swapped motors 292 60 over big valve heads , heads planed .030 , General Kinetics cam ported @polish job. The sound was totaly different everybody asked me if I took my mufflers compleatly off-- it was that much louder. I added a balence pipe and that helped. This is just my experience. I would wait till you get your engine where you want it before trying to  get your exhaust sound.

Thats what smithy's sound like with long tube headers dumped right after the cab. Quiet but noticeable idle and loud when you romp on it.

Started out with a 2 in. and long glass pack system. Glass packs were like 30 in. long I re-did the system with 2 1/4 in. and shorter 2 Chamber Flowmasters. It was okay but just sounded too "pingy" to me. Really didn't like the sound. I now have 18"  2 1/4"  Cherry Bombs. Its loud and think I'm probably going to change it with a equalizer pipe. It will be a lot quieter at idle at least. That and I'm going to put on some Rams Horn manifolds too, be curious to see how the engine will react to that from the modified car manifolds I'm currently running.  If you ever want a good cheap muffler thats on the load side, put some tractor mufflers on sometime, I think the company is Stanley Muffler Co.

Thanks again for all the posts, I plan on rebuilding the engine before I change the exhaust, I am running some sort of headers a guy told me I think they were reds or something there shortty headers all 4 exhaust ports go to one tube outlet not individual exhaust tubes going to a coupler

Not my dads 57 Fairlane nor my grandfathers, young guns are taking over !
